Waterloo Local board elects leadership, names legislative liaison and OSBA delegate

The Waterloo Local Board of Education adopted its organizational meeting agenda and elected board officers during a Jan. 9 meeting, then moved into regular business.
Board President (voice presiding) opened nominations for president, and members closed nominations and approved the slate by roll-call vote. The president thanked members after the vote, saying, “I just wanna thank you guys for, and ladies for, letting me be continue on as president. We will do our best, and please just keep the chain the line the communications open.”
The board then nominated and approved a vice president and approved routine governance authorizations, including delegation of purchasing authority to the superintendent within adopted appropriations and a service fund to cover board expenses under the cited statutory section cited in the meeting materials. Each item was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
On personnel and representation, the board appointed Terry Zachariah as the district’s legislative liaison for 2025 and named Zachariah as the OSBA capital conference delegate with Joe Hicken as alternate. Members discussed conference logistics and the value of delegations to gather information and vendor contacts.
Votes on these organizational items were conducted by roll call and recorded as passing; the board then adjourned the organizational portion and called the regular Jan. 9 meeting to order.
