Beth Hargrove asks school board to allow tri-tender to use school parking for Sept. 26 race

Beth Hargrove, a member of the tri-tender organizing committee, told the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation board during the public-comment period that organizers want to start the event at the park and use the school's large parking lot so the race stays on the same side of Highway 35.
"We're trying for safety issues to keep the tri tender on this side of 35," Hargrove said, adding that organizers received complaints last year about participants crossing from the bicycle portion of the race into vehicle traffic. She said the committee has barricades, volunteers and traffic control lined up but is still finalizing insurance details and will submit the paperwork for the board's consideration.
Hargrove described the event as a combined bike, kayak and run with an eating portion at the finish and said participants can compete individually or on teams. She estimated the biking portion is under 4 miles and said the plan is to finish at the park. "We have the barricades and we have the volunteers and everybody's lined up," she said.
Board members thanked Hargrove and said they appreciated the committee's planning; the board did not take formal action at the meeting and organizers were told to submit the insurance documentation and required forms for administrative review prior to final approval.
The organizer named Nathan is handling permit paperwork and will submit the completed forms once the insurance item is placed on the application.
