Chief Bucknam updates board: Rotary lobster bake approved; community resource officer resigned

Chief Bucknam provided several department and committee updates to the Select Board.
He said the Skowhegan Rotary Club's annual "Mickey Powers" lobster bake was authorized to use the municipal parking lot with property-owner permission and that insurance was provided with the application. "We presented an application for us to do our lobster bake over in the municipal parking lot," he said. The board moved and approved the request.
The chief also described patrol activity around the riverwalk construction area and asked the public to observe speed limits. He said officers have been asking people who are loitering near construction to move on and that routine early-morning checks show the measures are working.
On staffing, the chief reported that the community resource officer resigned last week. He said the department has a candidate in mind who is already certified through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and could be placed into service without incurring additional certification costs. "He was a previous... police officer already certified through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy," the chief said about the candidate, noting the hire would allow the person to "hit the ground running."
The chief invited board questions and said the department is actively seeking to fill the vacancy.
