Committee: Grama Beard stabilized, Harry Bryan bridge needs $75,000 and donations

The Montreat Landcare Committee received updates on two local bridges and asked members to consider fundraising to complete planned repairs.
A Bridges presenter said Grama Beard Bridge is currently stable for crossing but requires one more step of shoring. The presenter credited a grant from the Council of Forests and Waterways (CFWNC) with enabling completion of that phase.
On the Harry Bryan Bridge, the presenter said, "it's probably gonna cost around $75,000 so we are currently receiving donations to complete that project." Committee members discussed ongoing appeals to donors to cover the balance and noted that some grants and in-kind work had supported prior repairs.
Committee members also discussed native-plant landscaping and a central campus plan to replace cultivated areas with native, noninvasive species as part of longer-term resiliency work connected to bridge and trail maintenance.
The committee will continue to solicit donations and monitor grant opportunities to fund the Harry Bryan project.
