Resident urges moratorium on data centers; board declines to take comment on open application

Tom Wright of 96 Cemetery Road used the public comment period at the July 6 meeting to say there is strong local opposition to data centers and to urge the board to pursue a moratorium and stricter local ordinances.
"There is a strong opposition to data centers in the town, and I encourage everybody to work towards, I guess, putting a moratorium forward 1st and then working on ordinances to regulate them strictly," Wright said. He said he had attended a previous workshop and a select board meeting on the matter.
The Chair told Wright the board could not accept comments on that specific application at this meeting because the application is open and the applicant was not present; the Chair suggested the public wait for a future public hearing where the board could accept testimony on the application.
Later in the meeting Wright asked whether a developer could be required to upgrade a town road that a major development would use. The Chair said the board would need to consult planning staff and that the board did not have an immediate answer.
