"If we tell MnDOT we have significant utility needs and we need to go after the water main and sewer, that means we're digging up the entire width of the roadway... That becomes an entirely different type of project, an entirely different cost category," the committee member said, warning that substantial findings could require the city to participate in a reconstruction project with MnDOT.
The member said the televising cost per service could be "like, $500 to $1,000 per service," and noted the expense was accounted for in the public works budget; the item on the agenda requested authorization to proceed with the quotes in the packet so the city can make an informed decision ahead of MnDOT work next year.
