Superintendent: $250K MTSS grant, community-school applications and custodial staffing shortfall

During the communications and reports portion of the meeting, Superintendent (Speaker 2) summarized several personnel, grant and operational matters.
On grants, the superintendent said the district received a two-year MTSS grant totaling $250,000 to support implementation work and part-time staffing: "It's a 2 year grant at 250,000," he said, adding the first-year position fraction is 0.84 and the second year will decrease as funds shift. He also reported a roughly $25,000 MA grant for related implementation support.
The district applied for the state’s competitive full-service community-school grants, which the superintendent described as roughly $500,000 awards that would bring onsite services (mental health, dentistry and a coordinator) to participating schools. He said awards had been delayed from June to September and the district applied for all four schools.
On staffing, S2 reported the custodial team is understaffed by about 4.5 positions because of a retirement, a staff member relocating to Canada, a full-time employee who stopped reporting to work, and an earlier reassignment to maintenance. "We have actually I'm gonna say we're down 4 and a half people," he said, and noted the district will attend a hiring event in Grand Forks to recruit custodial staff.
S2 also noted the district will rehire a staff member (Soraya) under contract terms tied to grant funding and clarified that the community-school coordinator position would be grant-funded, not district-funded.
The superintendent said he will circulate his self-evaluation and goal sheet to board members in the days after the meeting for the August review; evaluations are to be returned to Nancy ahead of the scheduled closed-session review.
