Superintendent update: summer operations underway; 2026–2031 strategic plan to be presented later

A district staff member (S2) delivered the board's summer operations update on July 7, describing facilities work, summer programs and next steps for the district's strategic planning process.
S2 thanked maintenance and custodial teams for deep-cleaning classrooms and noted roof repairs and storm-related damages addressed over the summer. The extended-school-year program and the district summer camp (HTSAC) were described as “off to a terrific start,” and S2 praised staff who ran the programs.
S2 said administrative leaders completed a two-day retreat to reflect on the 2025–26 school year and plan for 2026–27. The staff member noted the district is completing its annual financial audit, rolling over systems for the new year, and refining administrative processes. On curriculum and technology, the curriculum committee reported work on summer curriculum writing for grades 3–5 (ELA), professional-development uses of consolidated SDSEA grant funds, Vector online training for staff, a search for a full-time speech therapist, and device-insurance funding being shifted to in-house repairs.
Practical dates were confirmed: new teacher orientation is scheduled for Aug. 19, 2026; the student/parent portal rollover is set for July 14 with the portal reopening Aug. 5; the subscription bus form deadline was pushed to July 17, 2026 (forms submitted after Aug. 5 will be waitlisted). The curriculum committee also noted that device repairs will be funded by the district going forward rather than via an external insurance vendor.
S2 asked the board to hold an item on the meeting agenda regarding formal adoption of the district's 2026–2031 strategic plan. S2 said the plan “represents nearly a full school year of gathering input, engaging with key stakeholders, and developing an actionable roadmap” and indicated a fuller presentation will occur at the support-of-education meeting before adoption is considered.
No public speakers addressed these operational items during the meeting; the board will receive the strategic-plan presentation at the upcoming support-of-education session before any formal adoption vote.
