Vanlue council discusses parks, sidewalks, zoning and meter-part supply issues

During department and committee reports on May 18, the Village of Vanlue council discussed a range of local projects and community events. The VCO presented its 2025 calendar and upcoming events including Vanlue Fest and a spaghetti dinner for veterans; Principal Sam Petrie told the council students had helped with park mulching and the principal suggested that student volunteer work be repeated annually.
Committee reports from Trees, Streets & Sidewalks said workers removed trees and stumps at 112 W. Main, and noted dirt is needed at 112 and 400 W. Main. Jerry Shane provided a sidewalk estimate of under $12,000 with materials priced separately; council placed sidewalk work on the fall list. The administrator, Josh Riegle, reported village cleanup went well, described a broken drain grate at Crawford and E. Main (a cone was placed temporarily) and said Land & Lake provided an estimate to add two drains by the playground; council voted to table that drain work pending at least three estimates.
Zoning updates indicated ‘Nate’ has been handling permits and inspections and was asked to pursue vacating alleys where appropriate. Buildings and grounds follow-up included two record requests and a report that a temporary roof repair at town hall has so far held.
The council also heard that MaryLou from Core & Main advised the village Sensus will stop manufacturing the SRII meter and that replacement parts should be purchased while available. Council members did not take action to purchase parts at the May 18 meeting.
The council adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
