Montreat Landcare holds information session; treasurer reports $124,286.80 and Flat Creek Crossing faces funding gap
Summary
With no quorum, Montreat Landcare limited the meeting to reports. Treasurer Jean reported $124,286.80 in a key account, noted Pigeon River–designated funds, a small negative line balance, and said construction for Flat Creek Crossing remains roughly 17% short of the original grant-based budget.

Montreat Landcare convened an information-only meeting without a quorum and heard financial and program updates. Jean, the group’s treasurer, reported the primary account balance for Flat Creek Crossing at $124,286.80 and said a second account is running a small negative balance (transcript reads an unclear figure). She told members that some funds in the account are restricted Pigeon River funds and that permit-related costs may or may not be reimbursable by the fund.
The lack of a quorum prevented formal agenda adoption or votes, so the committee treated the session as a briefing and focused on cash-flow issues tied to ongoing construction plans. "The total in that account is a $124,286.80," Jean said during her report. She said much project spending will be reimbursement-based rather than gifted funds, requiring continued fundraising and cash-flow management.
Jean also noted routine web-hosting charges and upcoming website work: the group is paying a DreamHost fee “$13.99 a month” and has a roughly $180 bill pending from web designer Jeff Hudson for updates. Members agreed to have a small website committee review Montreelandcare.org and provide prioritized links and content choices for a planned rebuild.
On Flat Creek Crossing specifically, Jean said the committee’s construction plan is about 17% short of the budget figures used in grant applications, and that the group may need to reallocate funds or pursue additional fundraising. Members discussed timing and reimbursement rules, with Jean noting the need to check whether permitting costs remain eligible for reimbursement.
Because the meeting was informational only, members did not take formal action but recorded these follow-up items for future meetings: clarify Pigeon River fund eligible expenses, finalize website committee recommendations, and continue fundraising planning for Flat Creek Crossing.
