Kemper County Utility District approves claims, hears water-line update

The Kemper County Utility District board of commissioners approved two claims and received project updates at its regular Sept. 18 meeting in DeKalb.
The board voted unanimously to pay $1,352.20 to law firm Glover, Young, Hammack, Walton & Simmons for legal services and $302.16 to Empirical Energy for administrative services, a combined total of $1,654.36. Commissioner Bill Wilkerson moved to pay the claims, Commissioner Bobby McDade seconded, and the motion passed with Commissioners Susan Morgan, Tony Luke, Bobby McDade, Bill Wilkerson and Jonathan Coleman voting yea.
Chairman Susan Morgan reported the district’s checking account balance was $17,845.07 and told commissioners that the district’s proposed budget has been approved by the Board of Supervisors, a procedural step the board noted without further action.
Engineering Plus provided a status report on the district’s water-line project, saying the contract is being executed and that staff are continuing efforts to locate and identify landowners needed to obtain rights of way. The board reviewed a letter the district sent to the Mississippi Development Authority regarding the Weyerhaeuser site; the letter was made available for the board’s review but no vote followed.
The board also amended the meeting agenda earlier to add a new project item brought forward by Wayne Henson and heard Henson’s presentation (see separate item). There was no old business, and the board adjourned by unanimous vote.
The district’s minutes were recorded by legal counsel Kacey Bailey and later signed by Chairman Susan Morgan and Secretary Bill Wilkerson.
