Kemper County Utility District hears water-line and site-development funding updates; Power Grant application unsuccessful

Commissioners received an update from Engineering Plus during the Aug. 21 Kemper County Utility District meeting about ongoing infrastructure and site-development work.
The board was told the county solicited bids and awarded a contract for the water line running from Mark Cobb Road to Scooba. Commissioners were also informed that a recent Power Grant application was unsuccessful.
Possible alternative funding sources discussed included the Tennessee Valley Authority for site development and interconnect site work, additional Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) funds for the water-line project, and coordinated efforts with the Horne Group. Engineering Plus is preparing or pursuing applications for ARC funding and the Mississippi Development Authority Ready Site program.
Chairman Susan Morgan also said she attended an annual Kemper County retreat hosted by the Economic Development Authority and confirmed the REDLG application was submitted on time; USDA in Jackson requested supplemental materials that were provided.
The discussion was informational; the board did not take a funding vote at the meeting. Engineering Plus and county officials were identified as the entities pursuing the next steps and applications.
