Board recognizes three valedictorians and names teacher, support employee of the month

The Russell County Public Schools Board of Education paused its regular business to recognize student and staff achievements. The board celebrated three high school valedictorians: Castlewood High School’s Anna Frances Rose Summers, Hutt Baker High School’s valedictorian (Connor), and Lebanon High School’s Michael Landon Owens, who received praise for academic and extracurricular accomplishments and scholarship awards.
Officials presented a portrait for each valedictorian to be displayed in the district office for a year. Board members and school administrators described each student’s extracurricular leadership, athletic achievements and academic honors, including a multi-year scholarship Landon is reported to have received.
The board also named John Boyd of Bowdoin High School as teacher of the month and recognized Laina Wright, cafeteria manager at Lebanon Primary, as employee/support employee of the month; Wright was on vacation and the nominator’s remarks were read into the record. Speakers emphasized both employees’ reliability and service to students.
These recognitions were formal parts of the meeting and were followed by routine agenda items and votes.
