Board approves routine items including EWEA MOA and early Chromebook purchase; finance transfers explained
Summary
The East Windsor board approved routine agenda items by exception — including an EWEA MOA for 2026–2030 and transportation and fiscal reports — and a board member explained that an early $600,000 Chromebook order and in-house facility work prompted transfers that appeared as red-line variances in the monthly report.

The East Windsor Regional School District board on July 13 approved routine agenda items by exception, including staffing changes, an East Windsor Education Association (EWEA) memorandum of agreement covering 2026–2030, transportation bid results, surplus property and district financial reports.
A board member moved to approve the routine items and the motion was seconded. During discussion, a board member asked about a red-line variance in the monthly transfer report tied to facilities acquisition and construction services; the board was told that transfers out of certain budget categories trigger an automatic red flag that requires county review.
A speaker explained the transfers reflected a combination of in-house work and reallocation of funds across projects. The speaker said several summer projects came in below budget, enabling funds to be reallocated for in-house hallway renovation, abatement work and other supplies. The speaker also said the district placed an early order for Chromebooks — about $600,000 — because vendors warned of supply timing, which required moving funds earlier than usual.
The board proceeded to roll-call approval of the routine items; members present responded in the affirmative and the motion passed.
Items listed for approval included staffing dated 07/13/2026; the EWEA MOA for 2026–2030; various transportation items and bids; out-of-district placements; professional services for students; approval of field-trip locations for the 2026–27 school year; an overnight high-school field trip to Blairstown, N.J., in August 2026; technology and recycling batch approvals; tuition rates for nonresident students; approval of the EMK parking-lot use allowance and transportation contractor selections; and the district bill list and expense reports for May 2026.
The meeting adjourned after a brief concluding exchange.
