Superintendent outlines summer construction, programs and an assistant-principal appointment

Superintendent Mark told the East Windsor Regional School District board on July 13 that summer construction work is underway across the district and that the administration recommends appointing Thomas Anderson as an assistant principal at Melvin H. Kreps Middle School.

The superintendent said the district is advancing a substantial HVAC project at Heights Town High School funded through a previously acquired grant, along with hallway upgrades, locker removal, painting and floor replacement. He also described athletic-field upgrades at the high school.

At Walter C. Black the district is in a further phase of HVAC replacement and is doing infrastructure and aesthetic upgrades, including new casework, flooring and lighting in several classrooms. At "G and R" the superintendent said the district is completing a multi-phase interior overhaul (final hallway, lighting and auditorium work) and that E and K will see an expanded and resurfaced parking lot.

The superintendent also reviewed summer learning programs: extended-school-year services for students with IEPs, RISE and recreation camps, a K–12 summer-learning hub at Melvin H. Kreps, gifted-and-talented activities, bilingual supports (July 6–30) and music enrichment running July 13–30.

On personnel, the superintendent recommended the board approve "Mr. Thomas Anderson" to serve as one of the assistant principals at Melvin H. Kreps Middle School, noting Anderson's prior service as a middle-school math teacher in Elizabeth and Paterson public schools.

The superintendent closed by noting the district will move to revise Policy 55-16 (student use of internet-enabled devices) to reflect recent state guidance, with draft review by the policy committee in early August and board readings later in the month.
