Independent auditors give Nags Head a clean opinion on FY 2023–24 financial statements

The Nags Head Board of Commissioners received the town's annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024, and a presentation from Potter & Company partner Emily Mills, who said auditors issued an unmodified opinion.
Mills told the board the unmodified (or "clean") opinion indicates the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the town’s financial position as of June 30, 2024. She said the audit produced no findings the auditors considered significant deficiencies or material weaknesses. The financial statements were submitted to the North Carolina Local Government Commission on Nov. 25 and received review confirmation on Dec. 6; no follow-up response to the LGC was required for this year.
Town staff also said the town submitted materials to the Government Finance Officers Association for consideration of an award for its financial reports and noted ongoing work to prepare popular annual financial reporting materials for public posting.
The board had no questions for the auditor and thanked staff and the audit team for their work.
