Fire Chief Randy Wells asked the board to approve entering a contract for a new fire pumper, recommending the Pierce custom pumper from Atlantic Emergency Solutions at a total cost of $1,348,807 (including a $50,000 contingency).
Chief Wells told commissioners that bids were solicited through the HGAC cooperative and that although a KME bid was competitive, Pierce offered better delivery reliability, local serviceability and a more predictable price‑adjustment mechanism. He said the apparatus is scheduled for replacement in 2029 and requested authority for the town manager to enter the contract now "with no payments until the 2029 budget is approved and the pumper delivered."
The board voted to authorize the town manager to enter into the contract under those terms. Staff explained that no payments will be due until the fiscal year in which the apparatus is scheduled for replacement and delivery.
What was approved: authorization to enter the procurement contract for the Pierce pumper; no immediate budget appropriation was taken on Oct. 2 and staff will budget payments in the 2029 replacement cycle.
The transcript records board approval by voice vote; no roll call or individual vote tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
