Commissioners authorize bids to demolish JLA building at Expo and designate site as Washington County Expo Park

The Washington County Commissioners Court authorized the county’s construction manager at risk to advertise and solicit bids for work at the Washington County Expo, including demolition and removal of the JLA building, and approved an order designating the property as Washington County Expo Park.
County staff described bid package No. 1 as covering demolition of the JLA building and related site and utility repairs at the Expo (1305 East Blue Bell Road, Brenham). Staff said the package includes electrical upgrades for the food court, plumbing repairs, sanitary sewer improvements, and other site work. A mandatory site tour was scheduled for July 27 at 10 a.m.; bids are due Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.
On the park designation, staff said the order simply formalizes the property's status under the Texas Local Government Code and does not change the site's name or how it operates. "This does not change the name of the property. It does not change how the property operates," the presenter said, noting the designation can open additional grant opportunities such as certain CDBG priorities.
The motion to advertise bids and the order designating the Expo as a park were both adopted by voice vote.
