Dustin Brown, identified as a captain with the Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department, told the court the total project value is $453,825 and that the department had accepted three grants expected to cover about $300,000 of that cost. "We're requesting county support ... We're just here to reduce the load of burden for us," Brown said, asking the county to contribute $30,000 toward the tender and an additional $2,500 toward personal protective equipment and rescue equipment.
Brown detailed the tender: it will hold 4,000 gallons and include a 1,000‑gallon‑per‑minute pump; it replaces the department's 1998 truck (3,200 gallons, 300 gpm). He said the department ran 266 calls last year — a 35% increase from the prior year — and routinely provides mutual aid. Brown added that the PPE grant requires purchases by Aug. 13 and that some grant timelines will be extended for the tender that will arrive next year.
A motion to approve the $32,500 request was made and seconded; the court adopted the funding by voice vote.
