KPSAA discusses raising middle‑school participation fees and proposed gate prices

Tyler Krekling, the middle‑school representative, told the KPSAA Executive Membership on Feb. 25 that many administrators support increasing the middle‑school competitive season fee from $60 to $80 while smaller schools reported resistance.
Krekling said the $60 fee has not increased in many years; the board discussed raising other activity fees from $25 to $40. Members suggested new recommended gate fees: Adults $5; Senior citizens $3; Students $2; preschool free if accompanied by an adult; Families $15; and parents of the home team $2 per game per parent. The board emphasized clear and timely communication if fees change.
Separately, the board recommended clarifying middle‑school handbook language on Borough tournament participation (changing a cross‑country‑specific reference to a general "Borough Tournament" entry and adding a school‑administrator approval clause) and discussed concerns about 6th graders playing on teams meant for older students. Executive Secretary Vaughn Dosko said a school using 6th graders on A teams was out of compliance under the current handbook and the board favored removing per‑sport classification language to avoid misinterpretation.
