Waterloo board approves personnel moves, contracts and $4,000 literacy grant

The Waterloo Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions, vendor agreements and a $4,000 literacy grant at its regular meeting.
Board President opened the meeting and the board moved, seconded and approved the consent and action items that included accepting the resignation of Marcy Hammonds, a cafeteria aide, effective Aug. 27; approving a leave of absence for custodian Juanita Saltzman (effective July 1); and approving corrections to extended days for several staff members. "Hats off to the administrative team," the Board President said, praising staff for a smooth start to the school year.
Superintendent June led the presentation of personnel and contract items and recommended approval of substitute employee lists, stipends for the Local Professional Development Committee and a resident educator mentor stipend for the year. The board also approved athletic support staff contracts (ticket takers, scoreboard operators) and supplemental contracts for coaches and advisors.
On contracts, the board approved a three-year agreement with Cintas for uniform and maintenance services and a multi-year agreement with Lisa Deetsch to provide occupational and physical therapy services; the superintendent said the Deetsch contract locks in favorable pricing but does "not tie us to her" exclusively. The board also approved an MOU with Ohio State University's SNAP-Ed nutrition education program to provide no-cost nutrition education in district schools and a school food-service vending agreement with a local industry council.
The board accepted donations including $6,759.92 from the Waterloo Youth Wrestling Association and in-kind support from Paul Allen Trucking. It also approved a corrective certificate for a Johnson Controls purchase order to resolve a date discrepancy for audit records.
Julie, the elementary principal, confirmed the district will accept a $4,000 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant and create associated revenue and expense accounts so the elementary school can purchase new library books. "Lot of books," a board member said after the motion passed.
All listed items were approved by roll-call motions recorded in the meeting. The board then voted to recess into executive session to discuss employment and compensation matters.
The board will take no further action on the first-reading policy changes discussed tonight until they appear on a future agenda.
