Council advances first reading of incentives for Homesite LLC Kershaw Street project

The Aiken City Council unanimously approved first reading of an economic-development incentives ordinance for Homesite LLC’s planned residential development at Kershaw Street and Richland Avenue East.
City staff said the ordinance would authorize incentives under a city code provision (read at the meeting as ordinance "08132018") for a project with an estimated investment of up to $1,800,000 and homes with a list price of about $300,000. Staff told council the incentive amount would not exceed $20,000 and presented the item as part of the Kershaw Street redevelopment effort.
Council members voiced support for the quality and affordability of the proposed homes and thanked project partners. The ordinance advanced on first reading and will return to council for subsequent consideration.
