District leaders briefed the board July 13 on the launch of new college-and-career centers and the partnerships that will support them.
Verna Martin, senior executive director of college, career and workforce, said the update would focus on two areas: strategic partnerships and memorandums of understanding to support the centers, and a phased open‑house plan to introduce the facilities to board members, industry partners, media and families.
Kate Hayden Emerson, the district’s executive director of workforce development, reported that the district had executed eight MOUs specific to workforce development and had increased staffing from 89% to 93% since the presentation materials were prepared. Emerson said pathway teachers had completed 93 hours of specialized training and that industry partners — including Boeing — had provided workshops and hands‑on activities; Emerson cited counts of students reached and activity totals by industry cluster.
The presentation described a four‑phase open‑house plan: an initial phase for board members, then business and higher‑education partners, followed by a media preview and a final phase for students and families, each to be followed by a ribbon cutting. Staff said more details would be shared as each center’s opening is scheduled.
Board members thanked staff for the work. No vote or funding allocation was recorded for the item; staff said the update was informational and part of implementation planning.
