Council approves pay application for street and utility work; final paving delayed after settlement spotted

City Engineer Derek (speaker 7) told the council that most remaining work is utility-related and that concrete curb, gutter and driveways are expected in the coming week, followed by the first asphalt lifts in subsequent weeks. Derek said he stopped crews from placing final pavement on a portion of 8th Street after noticing settlement and recommended delaying the final paving until late October "so the roadway can settle more before we put our final pavement down." He added that the work remains under warranty and the delay should reduce the likelihood of a future patch.
Council member Scott (city administrator) confirmed residents were notified via e-blast and mailings when possible. The council moved to approve the pay application and the motion passed by voice vote.
No change order was approved at the meeting; Derek said he expects a change-order request in July to adjust final contract-completion dates related to the paving schedule.
