Knox County budget committee short of quorum; appointments deferred to August

Knox County officials said the county’s budget committee is short of members and will delay formal appointments until an August meeting.

At a special joint meeting of the Knox County Commission and the Knox County Budget Committee, the chair (speaker 4) said the committee normally has nine members but only three were present. The chair said the county is awaiting two nominees who have been selected but not formally sworn in and urged that the group convene again in August so all three active members can attend and assist with appointments.

County Administrator (speaker 1) walked commissioners through the logistics, noting the committee’s charter and appointment process are unusual and that staff will reach out to nominees and member towns. Commissioner Morgan Hind (speaker 7) and other members discussed outreach to Rockport and St. George to fill remaining seats.

Commissioners emphasized the importance of a fuller membership before taking substantive action. “We only have 3 members at the moment,” the chair said, adding that two nominees are ready to be appointed once a quorum can be established.

The group set a follow‑up meeting for August and cited the need for public notice and outreach to ensure towns submit nominees and that new members can be sworn in. A participant cited August 24 as a candidate meeting date; the county will confirm and circulate details by email.

The meeting closed with the chair calling a motion to adjourn and commissioners voting in favor.
