New Le Claire library director outlines priorities, reports on May 4 medical incident

Lexie Reiling, the new director of the Le Claire Community Library, told trustees at the May 12 meeting that her first day was Monday, May 4, and that she has been spending time training with staff and meeting regular patrons.
"My first day was Monday May 4th! I am spending a lot of time getting to know library staff, City staff, and our regular patrons. Training is going well and everyone has been incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming," Reiling said.
Reiling said interviews for a part-time flex clerk took place the week of May 4 and the library will select a candidate soon. She also recounted an incident on the evening of May 4 in which a teen patron fell ill; staff notified the patron’s friends, emergency personnel responded quickly and assisted the patron. "I commend all involved for a job well done in keeping everyone safe," Reiling said.
On programming, Reiling outlined plans for the Summer Reading Program: the campaign begins June 1, with a kickoff event scheduled for Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. Staff training for the program is set for the in-service day on Friday, May 15. She noted May programming has been lighter to allow staff to prepare for the summer schedule and highlighted specific recent events such as an after-hours K-Pop program and a Book Bedazzling session.
The director’s report included routine updates on Friends fundraising, reimbursements for website costs, and building and grounds maintenance.
