YMCA reports ARPA‑funded results; King's Canvas asks commissioners for $20,000 to expand concert series

AJ Fernandez Hernandez, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, reported that county support helped the YMCA serve more than 5,000 individuals through programming at multiple Y locations. He cited 300 children in summer programs, 75 Power Scholars with a 100% graduation rate and approximately 450,000 meals provided through food‑security programs, including the Brown Bag Bus.
"Every dollar given to the YMCA is 3 times impact," Hernandez said, and described partnerships the YMCA uses to deliver meals and programming.
Kevin King, founder and executive director of King's Canvas, outlined a partnership with the Levitt Family Foundation that brings $40,000 in foundation support (noted as $40,000 per year over three years) and requested a county match of $20,000 to support a planned 30‑concert series. King said the series draws tourists and supports local artists and businesses.
Commissioner Harris pledged $4,000 from his designated funds at the meeting and other commissioners said they would respond quickly regarding additional support.
Next steps: commissioners said they would consider funding requests and staff will follow up on any formal appropriation procedures if the commission votes to fund either organization.
