The Occoquan Town Council on June 16 authorized a 12-month contract with Visit Occoquan for fiscal year 2027 not to exceed $27,700, after debating a shorter six-month arrangement and budget consequences.
Councilmember Cindy Fithian moved to authorize the Town Manager to execute a 12-month Visit Occoquan contract; Councilmember Eliot Perkins seconded the amended motion, which passed unanimously by voice vote. At the meeting, Town Manager Adam Linn described the six-month structure as aligned with peak seasonal work but said staff would evaluate which responsibilities could be absorbed internally to maintain a balanced budget.
Sarah Burzio of Visit Occoquan told the council the organization’s scope of services had "steadily expanded" and said the proposed pricing "more closely reflects market rates." She said a full-year program at the same level could cost about $36,000, while a reduced-service full-year option would be about $27,700.
Vice Mayor Jenn Loges said she preferred a 12-month or milestone-based agreement rather than a six-month contract; a majority of the council indicated support for a year-long arrangement during a subsequent straw poll.
The contract approval includes a direction that staff evaluate which tasks may be reassumed by Town personnel to contain costs. The council voted by voice and did not record individual roll-call tallies in the meeting minutes.
