Cheltenham honors retiring Police Chief John Slavin and volunteer Kevin Feiner

The board read and adopted a resolution honoring Chief John Slavin upon his retirement after 37 years with the Cheltenham Township Police Department. The resolution traced Slavin’s service from early career assignments through promotions and his appointment as the 11th chief on July 20, 2022. Commissioners praised Slavin’s leadership, community policing work, FBI and Northwestern training and his role in the department’s reaccreditation. Chief Slavin accepted the proclamation, thanked officers and staff, and received a commemorative plaque created by township employee Ron Donnelly.
The board then presented and adopted a second resolution honoring Kevin Feiner for 50 years as a volunteer with the Elkins Park Fire Company and recounted Feiner’s operational and administrative service and awards. Both resolutions were adopted by voice vote.
Commissioners who spoke thanked the honorees for decades of community service and acknowledged families and department staff for supporting that work; remarks were appreciative in tone and no dissent on either resolution was recorded.
