County approves 1% increase in public‑health district funding after presentation

Maggie, a public‑health district presenter, told the board the district’s fiscal year runs July 1–June 30 and that the district’s board voted unanimously to request a 1% increase from counties, a total of $24,412 across the eight counties. For Franklin County that translates to about $2,994 additional contribution.
Maggie said personnel costs are rising (largely because of health‑insurance increases) even as the district reduces full‑time equivalents by about 2.5 positions. Operating expenses were projected to fall, the presenter said, primarily because the number of vaccinations administered has decreased.
Commissioner (S4) moved to approve the district request; the motion carried on a voice vote. Commissioners praised the district staff and asked county staff to coordinate signatures and scheduling for the district’s budget hearing.
Kate Selvage of the council of governments also asked commissioners to proclaim April as Fair Housing Month and to accept a limited‑English‑proficiency four‑factor analysis; the board approved both items by voice vote during the same meeting.
The board’s approval sends the funding request and administrative materials forward so the district may finalize its FY2026–27 budget and sign required grant documents.
