Onsted Village Council approves snow ordinance, accepts ordinance officer resignation and schedules budget hearing

At its Dec. 8 meeting the Onsted Village Council approved a Village Snow Ordinance and Q3 budget amendments, accepted the resignation of ordinance officer Pete Eiter and set a Jan. 12 public hearing on the FY2026–27 budget. The council also approved a GPS data services agreement and warrants totaling $64,487.61.
The Onsted Village Council met Dec. 8, 2025, and approved a series of administrative and budget items, including a new Village Snow Ordinance and Q3 budget amendments.
Village Trustee Libby Chase called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Councilmember Mark Robotham moved, and Councilmember Keri Jeffords supported, approval of the Village Snow Ordinance; a roll call listed Jay Best, Mike Slick, Mark Robotham, Keri Jeffords, Steve Muth and Libby Chase (President Robert Schafer was absent). The motion carried.
The council also approved Q3 proposed budget amendments after a motion from Robotham, supported by Jeffords. Earlier in the meeting, Councilmember Mike Slick moved, and Councilmember Jay Best supported, approval of warrants totaling $64,487.61; that motion carried.
Councilmember Jay Best moved, and Mark Robotham supported, acceptance of the resignation of Pete Eiter as village ordinance officer; the council approved the resignation and tabled any appointment of an interim officer until the next meeting.
The council approved a service agreement with Silversmith Data for GPS data services (motion by Jay Best, supported by Mark Robotham). Council also set a public hearing on the proposed FY2026–2027 budget for Jan. 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. (motion by Jay Best, supported by Keri Jeffords).
Under information items, council members noted that FY2026–27 revenue and expense projections will be presented at the next meeting. An EGLE grant pre-proposal dated Dec. 5, 2025, was mentioned and a question was raised about whether remediation would be eligible for grant funding; staff were directed to provide details at a later date.
During public comment, a resident raised concerns about snow plowing in front of mailboxes and shoveling corners downtown. Councilmember Jay Best thanked the DPW for quickly identifying a possible water leak (which was later attributed to the fire department filling tanks) and for its work on the tree-lighting event.
The Clerk’s, Treasurer’s and DPW reports were received and filed. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
