Onsted council adopts vehicle policy, agrees to buy heavy-duty truck and accepts recycling trial

On Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, the Onsted Village Council met at village hall and approved a series of routine actions including a new Vehicle Replacement Policy and the purchase or financing of a 2026 Ford SDuty F-550, not to exceed $118,000.
The motion to implement the Vehicle Replacement Policy passed after a motion from Councilmember Mike Slick, supported by Councilmember Keri Jeffords. The council later approved the truck purchase on a motion by Councilmember Libby Chase, supported by Mark Robotham; minutes record the motion as carried. The purchase authorization includes a $118,000 not-to-exceed limit.
Council also voted to accept a co-mingled, mixed-use recycling dumpster from the Lenawee County Health Department for a nine-month trial, on a motion by Jay Best supported by Mark Robotham. Separately, the council authorized purchase of a village Christmas tree for the Village Christmas Tree program and heard that 27 trees have been sold; organizers will email important dates to supporters.
Business at the meeting also included the reappointment of Pete Eiter as Village Ordinance Officer (motion by Steve Muth, supported by Mike Slick) and receipt of routine departmental reports from the clerk, treasurer, DPW and ordinance officer.
Council discussion included an infrastructure note from Councilmember Jay Best about a proposed addition to the Water Plant. Planning Commission Chair Pelham announced Short-Term Rental training scheduled for Nov. 12, 2025, and DDA Chair Hubbard asked about water meter reports while Councilmember Steve Muth updated the council on the Safe Way to School sidewalk grant.
The meeting agenda and minutes for Oct. 13, 2025, were approved earlier in the session; warrants totaling $24,530.95 were also approved. Two citizens spoke during public comment on agenda items and three attendees spoke during the general public-comment period; the minutes do not name those speakers or summarize their remarks.
The meeting was called to order by Village President Schafer at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
