Stamping Ground hears police, fire, public-works and economic-development updates

At its Jan. 7 meeting the Stamping Ground City Commission received brief departmental updates from police, fire, public works/parks, streets and economic-development leaders.
Police Chief Don Whitlock and Assistant Chief John Giles said the department contacted Verizon to trade in phones that will no longer receive updates, is continuing installation of replacement Flock cameras (including microphone swaps), and is working on school resource officer issues.
Fire Chief Robert Hendricks reported the department’s response during recent snow events and weekend trainings, said the department had six runs so far in 2025, and noted ongoing work to wire and commission the station generator. He said 19 members of the volunteer fire department are EMTs and that the Lady’s Auxiliary Club has obtained 501(c)(3) status to allow grant applications for the Stamping Ground Fire Department.
Commissioner Ken Koger reported he is pursuing grants for new picnic tables in parks. Mayor Bill Swartz thanked Royce Dearinger for snow removal efforts and relayed that Mr. Dearinger mentioned much of the gravel at the fire department has been used. Commissioner Cody Meadows said he will reach out to local businesses to learn their needs and will inquire about recording or streaming meetings online.
The updates were informational; no formal policy decisions were recorded in the departmental reports.
