Council tables action on unsafe building at 108 Howard Ave.; tenants describe serious living conditions

Chief of Police Howard told the council that an "Unsafe Buildings; Determination and Notice" had been posted at 1220 Farnum Street on June 13 regarding the property at 108 Howard Avenue after the owners, Todd and Michelle Padrnos, did not respond to the notice. The notice informed the owners they must "remedy the condition or demolish the building within sixty (60) days" or the municipality may proceed to remedy or demolish the structure and seek to recover costs, and that an appeal may be filed with the municipal clerk within ten days of receipt.
Several tenants spoke to the council describing serious living conditions in the apartments at 108 Howard Avenue. Chief Howard said there had been no apparent effort by the owners to address the issues. Council discussed possibly hiring a structural engineer and involving the lien holder. The council tabled the item and asked Chief Howard and Mayor Feeken to confer and bring updates; the item was scheduled for the Sept. 16 agenda.
