Commission hears Buffalo Square Park improvement plans; first reading sets regular meeting dates

Commissioner Ken Koger told the commission Jan. 21 that he will pursue grants to help pay for improvements at Buffalo Square Park and distributed handouts illustrating proposed plans.
Separately, Attorney Joe Hoffman gave the first reading of Ordinance 2025‑001, which would set regular commission meeting dates as the second Thursday and fourth Tuesday of each month. Commissioners agreed to cancel a Feb. 13 meeting; the commission will hold a Feb. 4 meeting for the ordinance’s second reading and plans to meet again Feb. 25.
Consultant Melissa Bayer provided an audit summary indicating the city is up to date on required audits. Commissioner Koger said he would contact Tad Long with KLC (as noted in the minutes) about Buffalo Square; no funding commitments or grant awards were recorded in the meeting minutes.
The commission also clarified payroll reporting: city employees will receive W‑2s and contractors 1099s; Bayer will send W‑2s to individuals and clerks can print copies on request.
No final ordinance adoption or grant authorization for Buffalo Square Park was recorded at this meeting; the ordinance remains at first reading and grant pursuit remains staff direction.
