Stamping Ground commission approves school resource officer memorandum for school board consideration

The Stamping Ground commission voted Dec. 3 to approve a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for a school resource officer and to present the MOA to the local school board for consideration.
Commissioner Jennifer Jones said the city does not have an SRO contract with the school and recommended moving forward. Officer John Giles provided a cost estimate using a 30% burden rate and said the school would be responsible for about half of a little more than $38,500 if the Stamping Ground Police Department supplies the SRO.
City Attorney Joe Hoffman advised the commission that approving the written MOA would allow the city to take the proposal to the school board for their review and signature. Mayor Bill Swartz moved to approve the MOA for presentation to the school board; Commissioner Jones seconded the motion, and the commission approved it 4-0.
