Board approves internal candidate Val as Danville’s food service director

Mr. Herbert, who led the hiring presentation, praised Val’s internal experience and said she had been working across maintenance and food service duties before selecting the food‑service path. “Val has done nothing but impress everyone,” he said, noting her hands‑on approach and leadership in converting menu and point‑of‑sale software while the high school operates from a temporary kitchen.
Board members asked how many applicants applied (Herbert said four) and raised compensation questions relative to the predecessor’s pay; trustees also asked whether the coordinator role would be backfilled. Herbert said the coordinator job would be posted promptly.
The board moved and approved the appointment by voice vote; the motion passed unanimously. The district will post the food service coordinator vacancy and begin recruitment to fill that role.
