The Stamping Ground commission on Dec. 3 accepted Mayor Keith Murphy’s resignation and appointed Commissioner Bill Swartz as mayor.
Commissioner Jennifer Jones moved to accept Mayor Keith Murphy’s resignation; Commissioner David Clark seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Commissioner Clark then moved to accept Commissioner Bill Swartz as mayor; Commissioner Jones seconded that motion and it also passed 4-0.
A member of the public urged the commission to delay making a mayoral appointment until the incoming commission convenes in January 2025 so a November candidate, Mr. Fryman, would have an opportunity to serve. Attorney Joe Hoffman told the commission it could postpone appointing a new ABC Administrator until the new year but first needed to accept the resignation letters on file; the commission subsequently voted to accept Keith Murphy’s resignation as ABC Administrator.
The motions taken were recorded on the meeting minutes; the commission also agreed to defer some appointments and administrative decisions until after the new commission takes office. Meeting minutes will be approved at the commission’s next meeting on Dec. 17, 2024.
