Broken Bow council OKs consent agenda, a street closure and airport interlocal agreement

Broken Bow — The Broken Bow City Council convened on Aug. 8, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium and approved its consent agenda and city bills totaling $163,351.08.
Mayor Rod Sonnichsen opened the meeting, noted the public notice published in the Custer County Chief on Aug. 3, and read instructions for submitting future agenda requests. After roll call showed Councilmembers David Baltz, Paul Holland and Russ Smith present (Chris Myers absent), the council voted to excuse Myers’ absence on a motion by Baltz, seconded by Holland.
Councilmembers then approved the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the July 25, 2023 meeting and payment of listed city bills. The vendor and payroll line items named in the agenda included, among others, bi-weekly payroll of $73,331.23, League of Nebraska Municipalities dues of $10,561.00, 414H retirement payments of $8,017.50, and an item for JEO engineering fees of $4,521.67; the full list totaled $163,351.08.
Russ Smith moved and David Baltz seconded a resolution to close C Street between 9th and 10th Avenues from Sunday, Aug. 27 through Tuesday, Aug. 29 to host a Truckers Against Trafficking trailer; the motion carried unanimously.
The council voted to appoint Councilmember Paul Holland as the Custer County communications representative. The motion, moved by Russ Smith and seconded by David Baltz, passed with two votes in favor (Smith and Baltz) and one abstention (Holland).
James Callaway of the Broken Bow Authority provided the annual update on the Broken Bow Airport. Following the update, Baltz moved and Holland seconded approval of an interlocal agreement between the City of Broken Bow and the Broken Bow Airport Authority for the 2023–2024 budget year; the motion passed unanimously.
With no further comments from the mayor or council, Paul Holland moved and Russ Smith seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:14 p.m.; the motion carried.
