Clarks trustees hear pool, library and maintenance reports; set conditional action on stalled water hookup

Village staff briefed the Clarks Village Board on operations and ongoing maintenance at the July 9 meeting, reporting both routine successes and outstanding repair needs.
Tabitha Rieken told trustees the pool "had a great inspection" and that Aug. 8 will be the last day of the season. She reported a leaking sand filter that remains under repair and said the pool’s robot vacuum is out of warranty; she plans to disassemble it to attempt a fix. Rieken also said attendance is down this year, swimming lessons are complete, and staff will research shade options for next season; she said the pool will need a replacement umbrella from Deterdings.
Barbee Sweet presented the library report, noting strong story-hour attendance in June and ongoing programs such as Lego Club and July crafts. Sweet said she will enter a float in the Bean Day parade and has requested that the board add electrical work (additional outlets) to next year’s library budget; she will obtain quotes.
Planning & Zoning approved permits for several residential projects, including a fence at 301 W Morris, a CDA SPEC house at 403 E Amity, an accessory building at 207 W Amity and a fence at 108 S George. The board reviewed the status of prior nuisance-abatement cases: 109 W Barton is expected to be finished by the August meeting; 404 E Amity is complete; 105 E Millard is still removing tires; 609 E Amity awaits environmental test results; 409 E Amity had vehicles removed but one returned and needs verification of registration. The board received one new nuisance-abatement matter and took no immediate action.
Public works staff reported equipment maintenance issues including a hydraulic leak on the backhoe and a radiator repair on the tractor. A curb-stop leak was repaired at 426 W Amity. The board noted the sand filter pipe at the pool is deteriorating and said it will research repair options.
On a separate utility matter, the board directed Public Works Director Jeff Gress to contact the renter at 107 W Millard and said that if the water line is not run by Monday, staff should cap the line, test it for leaks and fill the street holes; the board also said it would be willing to waive the final bill if the work is completed by Monday in recognition of the prior service problems.
Clerk Kari Podliska reported that NDWEE provided a nitrate report that was forwarded to board members, and she distributed a Document Management proposal to be presented at the July 23 meeting. She also circulated a sample interlocal agreement to update arrangements with Fire/Rescue services.
Chairman Glynn adjourned the meeting at 8:54 p.m.
