Broken Bow City Council approves consent agenda, clears reimbursements and OKs street closure for Easter Egg Hunt

The Broken Bow City Council approved its March 10 consent agenda and several related bills, opened bids for surplus property and approved a temporary street closure for an April 3 community Easter Egg Hunt.
Mayor Rod Sonnichsen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the council voted 4–0 to approve the consent agenda as presented, excluding four Bills to Date items that were handled separately.
Councilmember Russ Smith moved — and Travis Kleeb seconded — approval of the consent agenda. Smith then moved separate motions to approve four reimbursement items from the Bills to Date ledger so that each councilmember who was a reimbursement recipient would abstain on their own item. The council approved reimbursements as follows: item 39371 (Joe Wamsley) passed with Wamsley abstaining; item 39391 (Paul Holland) passed with Holland abstaining; item 39413 (Travis Kleeb) passed with Kleeb abstaining; and item 39406 (Russ Smith) passed with Smith abstaining.
City staff presented the vendor and payroll list, reporting a Grand Total of $289,940.26 and a biweekly payroll of $80,927.76.
Under new business the council opened bids for Resolution 2026-03, sale of surplus personal property. The minutes list bids by item and amount (examples: Aubrey Patton $1,100.00; Julie Toline $800.00; George Mills $716.66; Cody Neville $500.00). The minutes record bids but do not show an award decision.
Councilmember Paul Holland moved, and Joe Wamsley seconded, to approve temporarily closing South D Street between South 8th and South 10th Avenues from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on April 3, 2026, for the Easter Egg Hunt around the Square. Administrator David Schmidt told the council the closure was proposed to improve pedestrian safety and traffic management for the event; Mayor Sonnichsen said he supported the measure. The motion carried on a roll call vote with Smith, Kleeb, Wamsley and Holland voting aye.
There were no public comments. Councilmember Russ Smith praised the Library and Parks Departments for the Story Walk at Melham Park. Mayor Sonnichsen said he will ask Darren Marten, Overseer of Streets and Parks, to provide an update on city improvements at the next meeting. The council adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
