Broken Bow council approves $11,314 change order to correct Eagle Crest storm culvert grading

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen presided as the Broken Bow City Council approved Change Order #3 for the Eagle Crest development on Tuesday, voting to spend $11,314.38 to install an area inlet and correct a storm culvert grading issue.
Ryan Kavan of JEO Consulting Group told the council the change order is with Myers Construction Inc., not JEO, and laid out two options: Option A, installing an area inlet to bring the pipe up to grade for $11,314.38, and Option B, extending the pipe and moving the flared end for $6,551.10. Kavan said JEO recommends Option A because "it isn't good practice to put that much water across a street, especially as you are coming down a hill to a stop." He added that the grading as built looks better than original plans and that substantial completion is scheduled for May 15, 2025.
City Administrator David Schmidt and Mayor Sonnichsen noted the project is coming in under budget. Councilmember Paul Holland moved to approve Option A; Councilmember Travis Kleeb seconded. The roll-call vote was: Councilmember Russ Smith, Kleeb and Holland voting aye; Councilmember Joe Wamsley abstained. The motion carried.
With the change order approved, Myers Construction Inc. will implement the inlet work and the city will proceed with the remaining concrete and pavement work as weather permits. The council did not provide further funding direction beyond the approved change order.
