Council to hold public hearing on $6.67 million FY2026 school budget amendment; FY2027 small-capital amendment introduced
Summary
Council introduced amendments tied to school construction accounting and small capital purchases; the FY2026 amendment (about $6.67 million) corrects accounting for a school-construction grant and will be the subject of a public hearing July 17; a separate FY2027 amendment of $4,052,513 was presented and requires a public hearing if introduced.

City staff presented two budget items on July 13. Mister McCormick described an FY2027 amendment and appropriation ordinance totaling $4,052,513 to fund small capital items across multiple departments; because of its size the amendment would require a public hearing if council introduces it.
Separately, McCormick said the council needed to amend fiscal year 2026 budget by about $6,670,000 to recognize a school-construction grant on the schools’ books as well as the city’s records. He described the change as largely an accounting cleanup related to an existing bond-fund appropriation for the high-school renovation; McCormick said the schools had been awarded the grant and accounting treatment requires recognizing the revenue and expense on both sets of books. Council moved and seconded the FY2026 amendment and agreed to hold a public hearing and consider the ordinance at its July 17 meeting.
One proposed FY2027 item that McCormick flagged included call-handling equipment partially funded by grant dollars; staff offered to respond to detailed questions via follow-up email or phone.
