Stamping Ground police report: 1,200 calls in 2024, SRO contracts and camera update discussed

At the March 13 meeting Police Chief Don Whitlock and Assistant Chief John Giles briefed the commission on department operations and startup items.
Chief Whitlock said the department logged more than 1,200 calls in 2024 and reported a $1,500 donation earmarked for police-related items and public events; minutes note the department may use the funds for equipment or, if a related grant does not come through, for ammunition. Assistant Chief Giles provided two sample memoranda of agreement (MOAs) as examples for SRO arrangements and delivered a list of payments the department has received and those still outstanding.
Chief Whitlock said Scott County and Georgetown maintain SRO contracts the city can follow, and he will meet with Superintendent Billy to explore a similar contract or hiring an SRO for Stamping Ground schools. The commission did not adopt any contract at the meeting; it directed staff to pursue further discussion with the school superintendent and report back.
The minutes also record that the Condor Flock safety camera is installed and operating, department policies are under review to ensure compliance, and the department passed the state audit.
The commission’s next meeting (March 25) is expected to include follow-up from the police chief about SRO options.
