Ringgold County Engineer Jared Johnson told the Board of Supervisors on July 13, 2026, that crews have completed multiple culvert replacements and continue routine roadside maintenance, and that the J55 chip-seal project is moving toward an Iowa Department of Transportation letting this November.
Johnson reported that a tractor and mower have been working to control vegetation along paved roadsides and that crews applied Farm-to-Market gravels in the county’s south-central area. Crews also sprayed primary noxious weeds along roadsides, deployed a total patcher for potholes and roadway deterioration, and hauled and stockpiled chip rock ahead of a planned seal-coat project.
He provided status updates on several work orders. W.O. 1449 replaced a deteriorated 30-inch CMP culvert with a 30-inch ADS culvert along J55 between 110th and 120th Avenue (complete). W.O. 1475 replaced a deteriorated 24-inch concrete culvert with a 24-inch ADS culvert, armored with revetment, at the same J55 corridor (complete). W.O. 1450 and W.O. 1455 likewise replaced deteriorated culverts (36-inch and 24-inch, respectively) and were reported complete; W.O. 1477 covered ditch cleaning around an entrance culvert for about 150 feet on 250th Street between U.S. Highway 169 and 220th Avenue (complete).
On the J55 Chip Seal project (P14 to U.S. Highway 169), Johnson said the department obtained an in‑right‑of‑way permit from IDOT for work at the J55/U.S. 169 intersection. After the outstanding culvert replacements are finished, Etder Corporation will be on site to complete base stabilization. The county is awaiting a final mitigation-credit quote for the Union 13 project, has submitted check plans to IDOT for review, and is targeting an IDOT letting in November.
Johnson also described construction progress at the Middle Fork 10 site, noting that crews finished decking the east abutment panel gap, set caps and stringers at the interior span, installed wedge blocks and deck panels, formed pier caps and curb forms, and completed other deck‑form tasks. Planned work for the coming period includes installing guardrail, applying release agent to deck formwork, anchoring assemblies, tying reinforcing steel for the wings and forming the wings.
The updates do not specify contract amounts or mitigation-credit totals; the county will proceed with required procurement and IDOT coordination before the November letting.
