Board approves vendor awards and grants permission to bid multiple renovation and storm‑repair projects

Procurement and facilities staff briefed the Ouachita Parish School Board on active solicitations and upcoming construction work. Jerry Peters reported no bids on the Burke School property sale and presented RFP results for sound systems at three schools, recommending Matt’s Music with a proposal of $324,283. “After reviewing the RFP submission… the RFP committee determined Matt’s Music to be the highest scoring vendor,” Peters said. The board accepted the RFP award.
Peters also advised that West Monroe High School roof replacement bids will open later in the week with an M&O funding budget of $675,000; the board authorized staff to accept the lowest responsive bidder at bid opening. For West Ouachita berm improvements, Peters said submitted bids were above the stated $575,000 budget and requested permission to reject and re‑scope the project; the board voted to reject the bids and directed staff to adjust scope and re‑bid.
Facilities Director Mark Hemphill reviewed multiple active projects and timelines, including turf and track work at several schools and restroom/cafeteria renovations. The board also voted to grant permission to bid six additional storm/repair projects (funded by insurance and FEMA, or by West Ouachita sales tax for specific bathroom projects) with stated budgets; staff will return with bid openings and the recommended lowest responsive bidders for award.
The board approved selections of Molly Underwood as architect for specified cafeteria and restroom projects and Architect Alliance for Riverbed bathroom renovations.
