The City of Markesan Board of Review met June 4, 2026, and unanimously upheld the tax assessment for 531 W. John St. after the property owner and representatives failed to appear, the board’s minutes show.
Mayor Rich Slate was selected as chair by unanimous consent after the board convened at 5:16 p.m. Ald. Pat Prill and Ald. Joseph Kazda made and seconded the motion to name Slate chair; the motion carried 3-0. Clerk/Treasurer Tamra M. Harrington verified the board had been properly noticed in the Markesan Regional Reporter on April 30, 2026, and noted she completed the Wisconsin Department of Revenue Board of Review training on June 4, 2026 as required by Wis. Stats. 70.46(4). Assessor Brian Frank of Frank Assessments, LLC confirmed that the Tax Assessment Roll was complete and that Open Book had been held.
The Clerk reported one objection had been filed with the Clerk’s Office. When the board first convened the owner was not present, and the board voted to temporarily adjourn until the owner could appear; that motion (Prill/Kazda) carried 3-0 and the board adjourned at 5:18 p.m. The Board reconvened at 7:05 p.m. to hear scheduled matters.
At the evening session the board opened the hearing on the objection for 531 W. John St.; no owner or representative appeared. Ald. Pat Prill moved, and Ald. Joseph Kazda seconded, to deny the objection and uphold the assessment. The motion carried 3-0.
The board briefly adjourned and reconvened again; with no additional owners appearing during the required two-hour session, Ald. Joseph Kazda moved and Ald. Pat Prill seconded to adjourn the 2026 Board of Review. That motion carried 3-0 and the board adjourned at 7:16 p.m. The minutes were signed by Tamra M. Harrington, Clerk/Treasurer.
