Board approves 2026–27 insurance renewal, declines uninsured‑motorist coverage
Summary
After a presentation by Arthur J. Gallagher, the board approved the district’s 2026–27 insurance renewal, accepting a liability placement with Euclid (a Hudson company) that reduced total premiums by roughly 9.2% (~$194,000) and approved legally required declination of uninsured motorist coverage with the president authorized to sign the form.

The Ouachita Parish School Board voted to renew the district’s insurance package for the 2026–27 year after an overview from Kevin Woods of Arthur J. Gallagher.
Woods summarized the renewal: property coverage is essentially flat with only a modest change in insurable values; equipment breakdown coverage produced roughly $25,000 in savings by moving to a different market; excess workers’ compensation renewed flat. He said the liability market required a change because Chubb “pulled out of Louisiana completely” for K–12, and after marketing the district’s risk the recommendation was to move liability to Euclid (a Hudson company) with a higher retention that led to overall premium savings. “The total premium package is down about 9.2%, almost $194,000,” Woods said.
Woods also noted statutory requirements to record a declination of uninsured motorist coverage and that the declination form must identify who will sign it. The board moved to accept the insurance renewal, to decline uninsured‑motorist coverage and to authorize the president, Tommy Como, to sign the declination form. The motion carried with no opposition.
Board members commended the broker on the renewal and on savings achieved despite market challenges. The board did not change coverage for workers’ compensation or the executive package, and members confirmed that excluding uninsured motorist coverage made sense given existing workers’ compensation layers.
