ASAA sanctions powerlifting; Nikiski High plans club season Jan. 8–Mar. 29

Executive Secretary Vaughn Dosko told members that the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) has sanctioned powerlifting as an official activity and that Nikiski High is operating a high‑school club in the sport.
Mr. Hooper, Nikiski's activities director, said practice would begin Jan. 8 and the final competition would be March 29; the program will not have a state competition in its first year and will hold four competitions locally. President Jesse Settlemyer said he would contact ASAA for the official language so KPSAA can add the activity to Appendix D for staffing and communicate requirements to HR.
The board did not set minimum participation numbers at the meeting; discussions on stipend eligibility and minimums will continue.
