Victoria pool leak and repair estimates leave future uncertain; council seeks answers by September

The Victoria public pool's future is uncertain after town staff reported ongoing leaks and filtration problems at the June 9 meeting.
Jessica Watson, identified as the pool manager, told council the pool has seen rising memberships and hosts swimming lessons, an adult daycare and a weekly day camp from neighboring towns. Town Manager Rodney Newton said the pool loses roughly 7,000 gallons of water every 24 hours and summarized repair estimates from Douglas Aquatics: about $32,000 to install a new filtration system; an estimated $13,000'$15,000 to buy supplies for Town-led installation; about $9,500 to replace the surrounding fence; and recoating the pool interior, an option that could reduce painting costs by approximately $1,200'$1,500 per year. Newton said staff will try to locate the leak first and return to council with more details at the September meeting.
Councilmembers expressed support for saving the asset and asked staff to pursue targeted repairs and further cost details before committing to major capital work.
